Cardboard Samurai

A short documentary that summarizes my practice

Credits for this short documentary must be given to David Hilhorst and Valeria Safira, both students of film at the university of Aberdeen. They contacted me asking if it would be possible to document my process, I really thank them for showing an interest to my practice.

Portfolio

In my master's course I expand the visual narattive beyond the canvas by making cardboard installations standing on space . Nevertheless the paintings, has no less value than the installations or the opposite. On the contrary these two means of expression co-exist in order to constitute the composition which forms a narrative.

Thematically violence stands as a pivotal point in this, hence war, the most graphic eruption of violence in human history appears as a focal point. However this is not the only theme. The character of the figure and the way of depiction is the main theme. The story un veiled through figures that hides archetypical values and seminal questions about human's struggle as main theme.

The use of cardboard also has an important role. As a material has certain values that can be used as compositional elements plus it's quite flexible and accessible. By reconstructing it and creating figures it is like the material is repurposed, it is revived by a creative mutation
